THE LION IS NOW A COMMUNITY OWNED PUB!
We are thrilled to announce that the keys to the Ickleton Lion were handed over to us this morning - the pub now officially has 415 new owners!!!
The committee would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved for your goodwill, generosity, support and enthusiasm - and for keeping us going throughout the process.
There’s a great deal of work that needs to be done before we can reopen (more on that later) but for now we are just enjoying the moment!

We are delighted to have been awarded £45,000 funding from Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority as part of its Market Towns Programme which aims to revitalise the area’s market towns and rural hinterlands.
The CPCA has partnered with Plunkett UK, a community business charity, to help community groups across the region take ownership and operation of local pubs and assets that are vacant or at risk of closure, revitalising assets whilst protecting and providing key local amenities that will benefit the community.
We’re incredibly grateful to both Plunkett UK & the CPCA for their invaluable support for our campaign and this much needed contribution to the funds we need to purchase and revitalise our beloved village pub.
Ickleton Community Pub Limited (ICP) was established in 2024 as a Community Benefit Society (CBS) incorporated under the Cooperative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.

ICP was formed in order to:

-
Raise funds to purchase the freehold of and refurbish The Ickleton Lion through fundraising, shares and grants
-
Reopen and operate the pub as a successful long-term business to be run by professional staff
-
Ensure that The Ickleton Lion will become a social hub for the wider benefit of the community
ICP is based on the model rules provided by the Plunkett Foundation, a charitable organisation that supports community cooperatives in rural areas. ICP is currently run by a committee of people from Ickleton, details of whom can be found on the 'About' section of the website.
